Mission
Our mission is to unite pragmatic Greens, progressive and green Democrats,
and independent greens and progressives into long-term, strategic grassroots
alliances.
Objectives
- To empower the progressive majority, win elections, and defeat the right's
attempt to split us into squabbling factions
- To further the greater green political vision of a democratic, inclusive,
and sustainable society and natural world and hold those politicians we
support accountable to that vision!
- To be a representative voice for our crucial, highly-educated, regularly
-voting segment of the 'radical middle,' and a network of support for
aligned officeholders
Stategies
- Organize politically via sophisticated website and email campaigns
in the model of MoveOn.org and Democrats.com, support state and local
networks, and coordinate with and encourage the many already blossoming
similar efforts (such as the Greens For Kucinich movement)
- Ensure the valuable political capital and power of our swing vote
is recognized, maintained, heeded, and used wisely
- Elect green-friendly progressive officeholders regardless of party
affiliation and ensure that, once elected with our support, they uphold
green values and are accountable to us for our continued support
- Promote the establishment of green caucuses in the Democratic Party
and work with the DP's progressive wing
- Promote the establishment of a 'pragmatic' wing of the Green Party,
further the GP's political maturation and national presence, and unite
with coalitionist tendencies in the established worldwide Green movement
(such as the 'realo' wing of the German Greens)
- Advocate electoral reforms such as Instant Runoff Voting or dual
party memberships to enable more formal lasting alliances.
- Establish and nurture rapport and ongoing dialogue between Greens,
Democrats, and progressive/green independents so as to avoid internecine
self-destructive struggles and heal rifts, avoiding the constant cycle
of spoiler scenarios and enabling greens to gain political power without
resort to threat tactics, via discussion, conferences, and reconciliation
workshops.
- Promote the Two Tier Approach: Democrats helping Greens build long
term political presence by helping them win local, regional, and 'nonpartisan'
seats in city councils, county commissions, state government, and boards and
such (which fits into the Green politicalphilosophy of building from the
bottom up) in return for Greens agreeing not to run spoilers against good
Democratic candidates in larger national and state races.
